5 Ways to Get to Work in London
by Amanda PavisThere may be 50 ways to leave your lover according to the song, but there are not so many ways to get to work in London, but compared with many places in the UK, there are definitely more ways to get to work than just going by car. Indeed in London, most people use public transport as opposed to going to work by car, since it slow by car, many people don't have one, parking can be extortionate and you may even have to pay a congestion charge.
So how can you get to work in London? Well the most obvious way is the tube, particularly if you live near a tube station. The tube trains are generally frequent and reasonably reliable, but the down side is that at peak times overcrowding can simply turn it into a nightmare.
Buses are also extremely frequent in London and relatively cheap, but they too can experience overcrowding and at times there have been some instances of anti social behaviour.
Cycling to work is very popular. But if you have not been on a bike since school and you are now 22, then practice before you take to London streets. Congestion is bad in London and the roads are very busy and it has to be said, the style of driving is quite aggressive in London, so make sure that you are both competent and confident on a bike before you take to the busier streets!
The canal system in London is expensive, so many people choose to walk or cycle along the canal towpaths. This can be lovely in the summer, but in winter it may be better to revert to public transport.
Walking is also a very good way of getting to work and if you stick to the main streets, not taking any unlit, very dark routes (in winter) then you will find yourself getting fitter and actually seeing London in all her glory!
